The Aids Support Organization (TASO) is a Ugandan NGO that works to help HIV-positive Ugandans live well with HIV and AIDS and prevent further HIV infection. As the largest indigenous NGO providing HIV/AIDS services in Uganda, the organization does everything from testing, to medical visits and home-based counseling. TASO also brings services out into the community by setting up clinics outside of the regular centers and sensitizing communities to the issue of HIV/AIDS.
The spirit behind the TASO effort, no matter how small the medical center, is one of generosity and caring. Many of those working at the clinics or aiding in home visits are HIV-positive volunteers wanting to spread hope that others may live positive lives, like themselves.
In a war-torn country like Uganda, where HIV and AIDS are widespread, the work of this organization is crucial, and the dignity and respect with which patients are treated leads one to hope in a brighter future for its population.
