Rarely have I met a more enthusiastic and dedicated group of people as I have at PEPY. Perhaps it is because, even though their work is difficult and full of frustrations, they clearly love what they do and are able to see and experience the direct results of their hard work in the community and at the individual level. Perhaps it's because they aren't a large organization trying to do everything for everyone as fast as possible, but are a small and focussed NGO working at the very grassroots level directly with the community, parents, students and educators, making progress at a sustainable pace that is concerned with the long-term future of the community and not the short-term success story of the NGO. After spending some time in Chanleas Dai, the commune of communities in which PEPY works, I realized just how important investing in education and access to education is. PEPY's comprehensive and holistic approach was a wonderful eye-opener. They don't build a school, erect a plaque, pat themselves on the back and leave. They are in it on the ground day in and day out for the long term. It was a real honor to get to know them and the community in which they work.
There is so much more to say about what PEPY is doing in Cambodia. Please go to their website and read about their programs in more detail.
