Child Haus

Nikki Sandino Victoriano

The Center for Health Improvement and Life Development or Child Haus provides a free temporary shelter or a dormitory for patients from the provinces that sought medical treatment here at the city but doesn’t have a place to stay. Most of its “resident-borders” are children with cancer who undergoes chemotherapy for 28 – 21 days in three to six months – without the Child haus, some of them stays with their relatives in the city while the others sleeps at the hospital hallways while waiting for their therapy.

Child Haus doesn’t just only provide a shelter for children, just like their real home in the province– the Child Haus build a “homely environment” that uplifts their morality and creates a better perspective of life. They are given an environment where they can play and learn with other people and children developing their sense of belongingness and making them feel that they are accepted, they are not alone and abandoned by the society. They are given an environment where the children have chance to live a normal life beyond their sickness. They are given an environment where hope and faith for recovery is abundant.

The Child Haus also provides livelihood programs for the guardians who are waiting for their children’s treatment. Livelihood programs that they can bring back home to their provinces and serve as a new source of income that could support their child’s medication.
